Bhutan’s currency is the ngultrum, coded BTN and commonly written with Nu. The Royal Monetary Authority explains that it was introduced in 1974 and has been pegged at par to the Indian rupee since its introduction. At that official parity, one ngultrum corresponds to one Indian rupee. [5]

The one-to-one relationship does not make every account, banknote or payment app interchangeable. A service still needs to identify the currency it accepts and the transfer route it supports. For ordinary payments, retain the BTN or INR label on receipts and compare any handling fee separately from the currency amount.
