The Kyrgyz som is identified by KGS; the shorter local notation с can also appear. The National Bank's banknote history records the first issue in May 1993, including both som notes and fractional tyiyn notes. For an international comparison, writing KGS removes ambiguity about which country's som is meant. [2]

Currency settings
When an account uses KGS, retain the original som amount for both deposits and payouts. If money is converted into another balance currency, compare the complete debit and credited amount rather than the advertised exchange rate alone. An account's ability to show KGS does not establish whether a particular local card or wallet can fund it.
